What’s been happening…

A good day out at Timaru on Monday bringing home a winner and a second on the dead 4 track. It was a tough ask for anything too far off the speed with very few horses able to make up ground the play of the day. Devious came in fresh having not been on track since October and finished 2nd in the 74 1200m with Dan Bothamley in the saddle. He trailed the leader and kicked along well unable to close the gap on the winner, but pleasing to have him back at the races. It was a wait until the last but it was well worth it with a deserved win from Zareeba. In the hands of Kozzi Asano she was full of running fourth one off making her move around the leaders at the 600. In front rounding the bend she gave them the slip and dashed away for the win.

Just the one runner at Kurrow Wednesday in Highly Unlikely. A lovely ride from Dan out of a sticky gate and 4th placing over the 1800m not too far from the winner.

Coming up… The Coast circuit is up next beginning on Monday and it’s a bit all over the show waiting for draws and track conditions but Greymouth is first up and at this stage it’s Devious backing up, Laphroaig for the mdn 1500m, and Lapis Lazuli if the rain arrives. From there we are onto Reefton on the 7th with Last Horrah and Scala Sancta both for 1400m events.

All the best for the New Year break and happy punting!

Happy New Year!!! We’ve made it and we could probably all agree in some way or another it’s good to have that one behind us. Let’s get stuck in to 2021.

With a good form line behind her this 5yo Rip Van Winkle mare out of Surooh has been ultra consistent in her races and running into a touch of bad luck along the way. Luck was taken out of the equation on Monday with a sterling ride from Kozzi Asano he made his move at the right time and she rolled up around the leaders skipping away from the field for a dominant win by 2L at the post.
Valachi owned and bred – a big congratulations to them!
