Some good results coming out of last week’s Ashburton meeting with Iffididit flying home for 2nd place in the mdn 1400m under Lee Callaway. He has plenty to learn but has put together two very good efforts at his only two starts, both for second placing’s. Miss Layla was the standout performance of the day notching up win number one at just start two. Well ridden by Joe Kamaruddin she positioned up well in the running from a good gate and hit the front early up the straight being left to it out in front and kicking on strongly, although still a little green. The Seamstress and Chadillac didn’t fire, and unfortunately a confused ride on Kudos de Sothys rounded out the day.

Coming up,

Back to Riccarton this Saturday for the Feature Meeting and we begin with Jakkalnuts. This mare is a wet tracker but need to kick her off and gain the race fitness so she lines up in the 75 1400m with Shankar Muniandy in the saddle and will jump from gate 3. Next up in race 5 is Elizabeth Rose who starts in the open 2000m with Kavish back in the saddle. A bit more weight to carry this week but up to a favourable distance for her. Straight into the next race and we have three contenders for the Listed NZB 3yoF Airfreight Stakes over 1600m. Betty Spaghetti, Miss Layla, and Madame Giselle. A smart, competitive field and we are very much looking forward to it.

All the very best to connections running this weekend.

Miss Layla

Our 3yo filly by Burgundy out of La Etoile made short work of her rivals at Ashburton last week winning The Trust maiden 1400m in the hands of Joe Kamaruddin. Left in front on her own up the straight she kicked well clear by a decent margin of two and a quarter lengths and found the line impressively. Congratulations to her wonderful group of owners, some of whom were on course to cheer their girl home. She has earned her place in the Listed 3yo event this weekend and it will be her first look at the Riccarton course.
