Riccarton so far…its been a testing cup week so far for us with extremely quick times being run on the first day on a firm surface. 6th placing in the Listed Metropolitan from Zentessa where she ended up being the last to make the bend and did her best in the sprint home, still a very good effort. Yesterday our Rip Van Winkle representatives gave good sights with Red Light District finishing a nice 6th over 1600m in the hands of Matt Cameron, who said the penny hasn’t quite dropped with him yet but still a solid effort. Big Wink certainly got the smiles back on our faces with a brilliant win over 2500m. Mick Dee in the saddle and racing out of his grade the big lad cruised around near the tail of the field and got a nice split in the run home for a strong finish to take the victory. It was fantastic owner Dennis Mullally was on course to celebrate this horses first win at start 7.

Saturday…At this stage we have 3 runners for Cup Day but in the first Devious is ballot 2. If he gets a run in the 65 1400m Craig Grylls will ride and jump from barrier 5. Race 5 is the Listed Welcome Stakes for 2yo’s over 1000m and Showemhowitsdone will take her place in the field. Sam Spratt will be aboard and a good gate of 5 we think she will give them a good shake off the back of her close up 3rd placing last start. In the last race of the carnival Seduttore is in the 65 1400m from barrier 2. Rohan Mudhoo will take 3 off his back and with a solid finish for 5th here back in late October we hope he gives another good show.

All the very best to connections racing Cup Day.

Big Wink

This 4yo Rip Van Winkle ex. Roc De Chine gave a great sight yesterday when he beat home the older multi win horses over 2500m. Racing out of his grade the trip suited this big staying horse perfectly and we couldn’t have asked for a better ride from Mick Dee.

Dennis has a second chance to be in the winners circle this week owning 2yo Showemhowitsdone for the Listed Welcome Stakes on Saturday. Congratulations to you Dennis, there is not much better than a winner over   Cup Week!
